Album Review

A compilation released in various territories outside the U.S., including the U.K., The Ultimate Collection covers Whitney Houston's career through 1998's My Love Is Your Love, containing most of the notable singles she released throughout the '80s and '90s. It's a fairly straightforward set, though there are some alternate mixes in place of original versions (including "I'm Your Baby Tonight"), which is not noted on the outside of the packaging. Some will find fault in the number of notable exclusions, including "Miracle," "You Give Good Love," "I Believe in You and Me," and "All the Man That I Need" — all of which were Top Ten R&B singles in the States. But that is more an issue of space than poor track selection.

The Golden Voice!

Whitney had a golden voice. She made a difference and then was called back. We should all remember that with love. I just heard a song that I dedicate to her called "Did You Make A Difference" by Buddy Mix. You can go listen to it here on itunes and be moved. It is a wonderful song that everyone should hear because it really makes you think about life. We love you Whitney and you will never be forgotten.

Another 'Greatest Hits' Album?

Whitney Houston is my favourite artist of all time. I loyally followed her during the 80's and 90's purchasing her every release and attending no less than seven of her concerts. However, what a sad demise of possibly the greatest female voice of all time. This isn't the place to discuss her problems, only her 'new' album. All that is on offer is yet another album containing Whitney's most popular music. We had the greatest hits album a few years back, and then the love songs album - all containing the same songs. And here we go again, another album containing the same old songs, even if they are true classics. However, how many albums do we need in our Whitney Houston collection of the same material? This 'new' album offers absolutely nothing - apart from the phrase '2000 Remaster' after a few songs (whatever that means). What a sad end to an amazing voice. I can only assume she desperately needs some money. My review gets five stars for the songs, but one star for originality.

Get ready for the biggest come back of all time!

Yes, I agree another greatest hits album is not ideal, but this is a clever marketing ploy to put Whitney Houston back in the hearts and minds of the UK public. By all accounts Whitney is healthy, happy and in good voice and judging by the success of this 'new' complilation, I am not the only one looking forward to new material and who still rates Whitney 'the greatest voice of all time'. So until the new album drops, sit back and enjoy true classics, sung by a true legend!

Whitney Houston was inarguably one of the biggest female pop stars of all time. Her accomplishments as a hitmaker were extraordinary; just to scratch the surface, she became the first artist ever to have seven consecutive singles hit number one, and her 1993 Dolly Parton cover "I Will Always Love You" became nothing less than the biggest hit single in rock history. Houston was able to handle big adult contemporary ballads, effervescent, stylish dance-pop, and slick urban contemporary soul with equal...
