Editors’ Notes

It's hard to imagine what the music of the '10s and beyond might sound like without Burial. His smoky breakbeats and melancholic vocal samples helped set the tone for both underground bass music and universally acclaimed albums like Beyoncé. But the reason for his impact probably has less to do with his techniques than the overwhelming sense of loneliness he conjures. Desolate songs like "Archangel" and "In McDonalds" are the sound of deepest despair, but also of silver linings.

Beautifuly melancholy

Beautiful in its melancholy air ,Wonderfuly dwelling ..all that we love about the dirty dark rainy late night streets of London ..I now live in Australia ..but listening to this fantastic album ..close my eyes and im back in those dark lonley kings cross lanes after a night clubbing.. A true talent ..not often that Im instantly stunned into taking notice ..To much endless "same as" rubbish out there ....Buy this album ..reward this blokes tallent! and enjoy will.!

Icily beautiful

I'm not particularly concerned what genre or sub genre this music belongs in but I would file it under "pretty bloody wonderful".To me it plays as one long piece of music as it has at it's core an icy beauty that is ominous yet strangely uplifting. A gorgeously dark record !

"I love...old jungle and garage tunes, when you didn't know anything about them, and nothing was between you and the tunes," Burial was quoted as saying in a rare interview (The Guardian, October 26, 2007). "I liked the mystery; it was more scary and sexy, the opposite of other music." Anonymity, of course, has long been a quality positively associated with electronic music, going back to early years of Detroit techno,...
