Album Review

Like the LP Just Dave Van Ronk, this is a mostly solo collection, though his approach is a bit more aggressive. He more deliberately uses the rough qualities of his voice to take on the characters that populate the songs. Some of the best of these elastic performances are "Dink's Song," "Hesitation Blues, " and "Come Back Baby, " which every budding guitarist in the '60s was obliged to learn.

Guitarist, singer, songwriter, and native New Yorker Dave Van Ronk inspired, aided, and promoted the careers of numerous singer/songwriters who came up in the blues tradition. Most notable of the many musicians he helped over the years was Bob Dylan, whom Van Ronk got to know shortly after Dylan moved to New York in 1961 to pursue a life as a folk/blues singer.
