EDITORS’ NOTES

When Julian Casablancas discovered “Regeneration”—a melodic, Manic Streets Preachers-infused call-to-arms–on a secretive music site, the Strokes front-man was so obsessed he released it on his label. The London four-piece build on that leg-up with a debut album that effectively blends their wide-ranging alt-rock tastes. “Baby’s Alright” turns up with Americana post-punk guitars and urgent choruses, “Treats” goes heavy on its spiky Pixies leanings and “World on Fire” struts by in a deep, satisfying haze. “Stupid Things”, meanwhile, even has strains of Springsteen.

About INHEAVEN

South London's INHEAVEN mix grunge, shoegaze, and other influences in an eclectic, decades-spanning take on rock. The group began when bassist/vocalist Chloe Little began making short visuals that vocalist/guitarist James Taylor used as songwriting inspiration. The band came up with its first song, "Regeneration," using this process, and posted it and several other tracks online after recruiting drummer Joe Lazarus and guitarist Jake Lucas. Julian Casablancas' Cult Records released "Regeneration" as INHEAVEN's official debut single in 2015. Several other singles followed, including that year's "Bitter Town" and 2016's "Baby's Alright" and "All There Is." INHEAVEN's more polished self-titled debut album, recorded in Wales with Tom Dalgety, followed in 2017. ~ Heather Phares
