Customer Reviews

from one fan's perspective

In many ways, Invented is a very different album compared to the bands last three efforts (Chase This Light, Futures, and Bleed American). Where these three albums offered a mixture of both fast and slow songs, Invented, for the most part, stays at a consistent pace. And it's neither fast nor slow, for lack of a better word, its "medium". It never picks up to the speed of songs like "Bleed American" and never slows down to the pace of "Drugs or Me" or "Cautioners". This was the first thing I noticed about the album, and just like the pace of things, the album rarely hits immediately-exciting points either. The first listen was a pretty flat experience. Just typing that really saddens me, because I'm such a huge fan. But there is hope on the horizon. Although Invented may not be as quickly lovable as some of their previous albums, it is a grower. These songs will slowly unravel themselves to unfold a beauty that isn't noticeable on the surface. The hooks, the drive, and the catchiness are all there, you just need to know where to listen. You know what, it's just like Clarity in that respect. It's a cleaner, bigger sounding Clarity. Overall, I'm rating it at 4 stars for "Good" but doesn't hit the 5 Stars richly deserved by "Bleed American" and "Futures".

Once again they do not disappoint

If you like what they've done before you won't be disappointed. The songs grow with each listen and it's not long before each track has you hooked. Not a weak song on the album, but my top 3 are My Best Theory, Higher Devotion and Coffee and Cigarettes.

Mixed feelings

This album from Jimmy Eat World is good buy it's nowhere near the brilliance of Chase This Light.stand-out tracks are 'Stop','Higher Devotion','Movielike' and 'Mixtape'.

Once a trailblazing name in the mid-'90s emocore scene, Jimmy Eat World eventually found a larger audience by embracing a blend of alternative rock and power pop that targeted the heart as well as the head. The band's influence widened considerably with 1999's Clarity -- an album that has since emerged as a landmark of the emo genre -- it was the band's follow-up (specifically the infectious single "The Middle") that crowned them as major figures in commercial rock. The emo label proved difficult...
