iTunes Editors' Notes

After years of pre-teen stardom in her native Canada, Alanis Morissette junked her dance-pop princess image and got scathingly, snarlingly real. Her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill was a sonic shrapnel-bomb filled with sexual rage and romantic recrimination that connected with a massive audience. Part of the Pill's secret is its compound of explosively personal lyrics and instantlynseductive melodies. Producer Glen Ballard keeps the tracks uncluttered enough to fully expose the intensity of Morissette's vocals. Whether Morissette is ripping into a craven lover("You Oughta Know"), accepting life's eternal unfairness ("Ironic"), or embracing her own confusion ("Hand in My Pocket"), she sings with unmistakable honesty. Tracks like "All I Really Want" and "Not the Doctor" are revealing snapshots of her search for love and healing. Still potent stuff a decade plud on, Jagged Little Pill is a dose of alt-pop passion from an artist who holds nothing back.

Customer Reviews

Must Have in your Collection

This album is one of those must have in your collection, in my opinion Alanis' best album and despite being almost 13 years old this album is full of angst, excellent lyrics and classic tracks. Even after all this time this is one of my all time fave albums and one of the most played!

Outstanding

This is one of those albums that takes you back in time to when it was 1st released. Every track on this album is fantastic. Like one of the previous reviewers has stated this is a must in any music collection. The stand out track for me is "Ironic" Very clever lyrics, allthough over played at the time of release, I never get bored of it.

Jagged Little Pill a good album, but what is the main reviewer of this album talking about?

Who on earth wrote the iTunes review for this album? Can people please simplify album reviews and just say if they think the album is good or bad, not wasting time or energy on countless words droning about insularity, bitterness or even the artist's life as you cannot fully describe music to someone using words and if anyone can work out how something sounds purely by a review, then go tour the world and make money as you have an exceptional gift. Reviewers please just say "Good" "ok" or "bad" to describe albums please For example my opinion of Jagged Little Pill is that it is a GOOD album! BUY IT!

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Alanis Morissette was one of the most unlikely stars of the mid-'90s. A former child actress turned dance-pop diva, Morissette later transformed herself into a confessional alternative singer/songwriter in the vein of Liz Phair and Tori Amos. However, she bolstered that formula with enough pop sensibility, slight...
