iTunes Review

The 2CELLOS experience is elevated to another level of excitement in a live setting. This set actually opens up in a more traditional manner, with Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser performing Tchaikovsky’s gentle “Nocturno” with piano accompaniment. With a piano, a trio performance of nuevo tango maestro Astor Piazolla’s “Oblivion” follows. That impassioned display perfectly sets up an understated yet emotive (and clearly welcome) reading of U2’s “With or Without You.” The aesthetic isn’t nearly as “classical-like” on a version of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” which features processed effects to give the four-stringed instruments a thrashed-out electric guitar sound at times. This set closes with a kinetic version of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” the song that originally made 2CELLOS viral video stars.

Good, but not the best selection

Loved their iTunes Festival performance - brilliant, energetic set. And so bought their equally superb album.
So why only 3 stars here? Because they played a number of songs that aren't on their album, and yet the only ones included in this EP were the two opening numbers, which weren't 2Cellos, but 1Cello (& a piano).
Where's the Green Day number, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the 2 closing numbers backed by drums: plenty of opportunity to make more of their repertoire available.
So, that's why it's only 3 stars from me.

Formed by longtime friends and seasoned players Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, the pair inked a deal with Sony Masterworks in 2010 and released their eponymous debut album the following year, which featured cello-centric covers of tracks from the likes of U2 ("Where the Streets Have No Name"), Kings of Leon ("Use Somebody"), and Nine Inch Nails ("Hurt"),...
