Jazz really does matter!

This is the last recorded piece that Sir John Dankworth wrote. Although his health was failing, his creativity was at its height. Working from morning till morning, he worked to get it completed for his recording sessions. The piece was inspired by his recent passion “Jazz Matters”, which are weekly music sessions held in “The Stables Theatre” in Milton Keynes every Sunday and continue to this day.

The opening bars of the piece “The World Jazz” is extremely moving and introduces you to the beautiful theme played by Sir John on the alto saxophone. This carries the suite into the fullness of his orchestrations and the genius of his humour, which does not detract from the seriousness and the depth of his writing.

This suite is in two parts, one vocal and one instrumental, the vocal part is sung by the extraordinary singer and Sir John’s wife, Dame Cleo Laine.

This is an album that lovers of music and Sir John Dankworth should have in their collection, for it is musical history from a great master.
