Perfect for a party

There is only one bad point I have over this album - it is a bit quiet. Apart from that, this is a beautiful purchase to make, and your ears will fall in love with the music very quickly.

Joao's Masterpiece

Stripped of the lusher productions of some of his other albums, this collection just shines. If you're used to the Getz collaborations the basic approach might surprise you, but have no doubt this is Gilberto's masterpiece. Listen at least twice - once for Joao's deceptively simple, fantastcally accurate, but still loose guitar playing and once for his singing. His great expressive voice is close miked and recorded 'dry', so you can hear every breath and smack of the lips. It creates a wonderfully intimate atmosphere. Sample his interpretation of Jobim's stream of consciousness Aguas De Marco for the definitive rendering of this song. Add a summer's evening for full effectiveness.

A must have for Samba afficionados

A great Album - Joao Gilberto at his best.
