A spectacular return to form

This tight, melodic and lyrically spikey set of songs from Gilbert O'Sullivan is, by some considerable distance, the best music he has offered forwards since his 1970's heyday. Focussed, driven, stripped down - a thing of wonder. O'Sullivan is a massively underrated writer, as this album effortlessly underlines.

Himself is back

Listening to this album is like meeting up with a dear, long lost, friend after nearly 40 years. This is a great musician and writer letting out his independent air with inimitable wit and trenchant observation on a world spinning out of kilter." Let's not go there" and "One door closes" are wonderful songs that I implore you not to ignore. I love it and will play it to death.

Same mastery... but different!

Energised by bands such as The Feeling and Mika entering the charts with their modern variations on a theme... Gilbert creates a masterpiece! This has all the mastery of previous material: strong lyrics, amazing melodies but the thing that sets it apart from earlier work is it's extreme polish! If you've decided you didn't like the old Gilbert O'Sullivan I strongly urge you to listen again as if hearing him for the first time. Old and new fans alike will both adore this album.

After graduating he went to work in a London department store; one of...
