Customer Reviews

a great great record

I saw Brighter play lots of times. They were always miserable, nervous, fragile and fantastic. This album followed their best singles 'Noahs Ark' and 'Inside Out', and songs like 'Christmas' and 'Maybe' are amongst their best. I could never figure why a band like Brighter was not No.1 in the chart. They seem to have everything a perfect pop group should have to offer to interest music fans. The fact that they still sound fresh, niaive, troubled and intense all these years later just goes to show that they have made some great great records. I wonder what they are doing now.

Sarah Smiles

Ok poor start, however despite my prediliction towards 1980's pop it doesn't make me a bad person. Sarah reconfirmed my joy in finding music that followed no trend. Brighter and their cohorts , notably Field Mice and Orchid's, made the 1990's bearable when it all seemed to be going so horribly wrong. Fold over sleeves and an HQ in a flat in Bristol made this music a must for those who still wanted their perfect tunes garbed in a DIY ethic. Please look to rediscover the Sarah offer as well as Shinkansen which proved to be a worthy successor, if Matt still has some back copies of both labels in vinyl, find them, buy them and cherish them - they are an important part of the music landscape.

Absent a flexi-disc release, "Next Summer," Brighter wasn't heard from again until late 1991, when they issued the full-length Laurel; the EP Disney followed in...
