Lovely storytelling, top tunes and perfectly paced

I think this must be Gamages Model Train Club's first album, because I haven't heard much from them before. I saw them at a gig last week, liked them and so checked this out - and what a great record!

A little bit Nick Cave, a bit Pixies, a bit The Doors, a bit Americana style and full of great stories, generally about people meeting their untimely deaths, The Loss Of... is a joy to listen to. At about 40 minutes, it doesn't outstay its welcome and has plenty of variety, from quiet, one-man-and-an-acoustic songs to full on wig-outs, via bar-room brawl blues and tight, satisfying indie-rock.

When you think of what £7.99 buys you these days, you'd be mad not to download this - I took a bit of a gamble on it and I reckon it more than paid off. And if you get a chance to see them live, definitely go and seek them out.

Definitely a band to look out for in 2009.
