An unwelcome continued evolution

I fell in love with Hybrid thanks to the first 3 brilliant albums of mostly instrumental joyousness and the occasional strong vocal track, the amazing strings and orchestra. So amazing. The last album was the beginning of the end. With Charlottes vocals on almost all the tracks and hardly any strings and instrumentals, i feared they were going only one way. The writing was on the wall when Chris Healings left. This new album is so far removed from what I fell in love with. Its not a bad album. I must state that. Just Hybrid for me isn’t a vocal heavy pop group. Seems that’s what they’ve evolved into now. I’m so sad it’s come to this. At least I have Morning Sci-Fi and I Choose Noise to listen back to and savour....

Lovely stuff!

As a longstanding Hybrid fan since seeing them live at bedrock, heaven one epic Thursday night last century, i’ve been anxiously holding my breath, shaking, waiting for this new album to light up my life. Fortunately Mike and ‘beautyqueen’ charlotte (or should that be the other way around?) still have their superpowers and remain true to the Hybrid ‘brand’. The usual rules apply, with breakbeat combined with a cinematic score right from the outset with ‘We are Fearless’. Although it came down to the wire, Light of the Fearless, in my opinion, is probably their best album since their debut Wide Angle. Some of you may disagree, but I won’t back down! It’s been a long time coming but definitely worth the wait.

Sadly disappointed

Direction change to commercial music, sad end to what was a very innovative group.
