About Francesco Piemontesi

Francesco Piemontesi is a Swiss-Italian pianist. He studied with Arie Vardi in Hannover and later worked with Cécile Ousset, Alexis Weissenberg, Murray Perahia, and Alfred Brendel. He was the winner of the 2007 Queen Elisabeth competition in Brussels. His recital repertoire includes the keyboard works of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, and Ravel, and he has performed as a concerto soloist with leading orchestras around the world, including the London Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the City of Birmingham Symphony, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, among many others. In chamber music, Piemontesi is the artistic director of the annual international music festival, Settimane Musicali in Ascona, Switzerland. He has performed with Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon, Emmanuel Pahud, Yuri Bashmet, Daniel Müller-Schott, Heinrich Schiff, Angelika Kirchschlager, Jörg Widmann, and the Ebène Quartet. In 2012, he was named by BBC Music Magazine as "Best Newcomer." Piemontesi has recorded on Avanti, Claves, Naxos, and Naïve.
