Album Review

As Kill Henry Sugar, Erik Della Penna and Dean Sharenow arrange an eclectic country twist and their third album, Sell This Place, is an orchestrated, delightful mess. Really, Sell This Place isn't easily classified, for Della Penna and Sharenow are pretty cautious with their craft. "The Way It Works" is one of the album's more tangible tracks with its subtle acoustics and light string arrangements. "Little Faker" and "Can't Afford" take a slightly different path, but Della Penna and Sharenow are keenly unpredictable as composers. Della Penna reaches for daydreams throughout the entire album; his warm vocals are spring sweet on tracks like "In the Mission" and "Bending Spoons," while the lazy blues-fusion of "Rodeo" struts with a sultry appeal. Sell This Place is a drunken waltz, a beautiful headache. Kill Henry Sugar has carved out an interesting sound for itself — very impressive.
