Ambition Jim, but not as we know it...

I am a big fan of this band... let me get that out of the way. i came to Cave-In as a relative latecomer in 1999/ish around an exciting time for the band...and the die hards. 2000's Jupiter was the turning point, lyrics now bellowed not barked and a sense of scale emerged from the dense aggression of their roots to the head spinning landscapes of the Tides of Tomorrow EP and latterly Antenna (6 of the 8 songs here culled from Antenna). Cave In are heard here, live (obviously..) proving just how the limitations of clunky labels like 'space rock' really mean nothing when the songs count off. its not all lofty proggy ambition with no direction or guts however.. Inspire bruises in a hail of fuzz and storming lead footed bass frequencies whilst Joy Opposites is a scycraper built from washed out delays and a huge vocal from Brodsky. Seafrost is simply beautiful.

All elements of a newly reborn-born Cave In are here. Playing 'this kind of stuff' like they'd always played music this way... its, to me, an inspiring example of a band truly embracing new territory without a care in the world. its not all just a head trip though. the stripped Youth Overrided speaks almost more than all the bluster of the arena show... Songwriting in a pure form. This period of the band divided fans...but you are richly rewarded of you suspend your hang ups and 'scene' scowl and listen to a band paying their respects to their heros but not losing an shred of their conviction- to kick your emotions into touch. now they're just doing it with their hearts and not just their clenched fists. enjoy!

Alt metal outfit Cave In originated in 1995, in Methuen, MA, when Stephen Brodsky and Jay Frechette got the idea to start a band in the vein of some of their favorites: Failure, Unwound, Snapcase, etc. With Brodsky on guitar and Frechette's vocals, they added bassist Justin Matthes, guitarist Adam McGrath, and drummer John-Robert Conners, and recorded some early demos. Split 7"s with Gambit, Piebald, and Early Grace followed before Cave In got a chance for its own, courtesy of Hydra Head, which appeared...
