What a find!

This was CD of the week in the Sunday Times last week so I thought I'd give it a listen. Boy was I glad I did. What a great album, perfect melodic tunes with some great lyrics. It's easy listening admittedly, but if you're in the mood to chill, or want something to put on while you and your loved one have a bit of supper, this is just the job to put a smile on your face. Favourite tracks? I can't decide, they are all superb - if pushed I'd go for Fighting Fire With Flowers and Blue Riders On The Range - just fantastic singalong choruses. I'm definitely going to check out their earlier stuff. One of my top 5 albums of 2007.

Genius finds genius

iTunes Genius found this while I was looking for High Llamas material. As the previous reviewer said, "What a find!". Easy listening? Well I find it hard to listen to songs that lack variety so for me this is easy listening - you stay hooked. Great melodies, inventive harmonies and warm, interesting chord structures. With an overall happy vibe yet without lyrical pap. If like me, you're into Brian Wilson, High LLamas, Randy Newman then I seriously suggest catching this band.

How did I miss this at the time?

I've only just discovered this album and what an introduction to the band! This is impossibly perfect pop music with meoldies which make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end throughout. If you take the best bits of Prefab Sprout, Aztec Camera and the Beach Boys, you get somewhere close to the sound of The Pearlfishers, truly outstanding.

Favourite tracks are the title song and "London's In Love" - the first time I heard the chorus of the latter I almost crashed the car, it's the biggest "Wowwww" of a melody I've heard in years.

Now.....where's that credit card for the rest of the back catalogue :)

Biography

Formed: Falkirk, Scotland

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '90s, '00s

An ever-shifting Scottish group led by singer/songwriter David Scott, the only constant member, the Pearlfishers are a glorious soft pop band mixing acoustic-based music with subtle orchestral flourishes, rather like a Glasgow-based Prefab Sprout with a major Brian Wilson fixation. Since forming in 1989 the Pearlfishers...
