iTunes Editors' Notes

This understated yet emotionally resonant album strikes a note of hope amidst heartache, offering a toast to life and the promise of its eternal renewal. Producer Diana Krall helps keep the focus upon Streisand’s inimitable voice, framing her with Johnny Mandel’s well-tailored arrangement and her own smooth piano work. Streisand finds a new richness in these mostly familiar tunes, treating them as immediate expressions of feeling rather than cherished standards. “In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning” and “Here’s That Rainy Day” have a confessional quality, underscored by her intimate, nuanced delivery. She brings out the wry humor beneath the sadness in “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most” and finds the pathos within “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”. The Brazilian tunes “Gentle Rain” and “Love Dance” add a sultry rhythmic pulse to the album’s elegant ambiance. Overall, Love Is the Answer ranks among Streisand’s most unguarded and revelatory works. The warmth and grace of its performances can be heard with even more clarity on the quartet-only recordings found on the album’s deluxe edition.

Pure Class

Streisand adds another classy Album to her catalogue after a several year break. Her last album was the amazing live recording from 2006. She really is one of the absolute greats vocally and any new album is a bonus, but they can be bogged down in over production, thankfully she has enlisted the help of Jazz diva Diana Krall and what we have here is a lighter, jazzier touch that lets Barbra's voice do the work on a well chosen (if laid back) selection of standards. Highlights are definately If You Go Away, Smoke Gets in Your eyes, Make Someone Happy and Spring Can Really hang You Up the Most, though Gentle Rain and Some Other Time are nice surprises. All the tracks sit well together and this will be an album that will improve with repeated listens and endure, reminding us what a great performer Barbra Streisand is and was.

Her voice is truly amazing. Such clarity. but what is truly amazing is someone who
can't even spell her name leaves her one star.

Barbra and Diana is the Answer - now what's the question?

This is just a fantastically great album from one of the greatest performers ever.
I have not enjoyed anything as much since I first saw Barbra in the Funny Girl movie many years ago.
But, do yourself a favour, buy the deluxe edition because Diana Krall is also a wonderful performer and together they make a magical combination.

Barbra Streisand's status as one of the most successful singers of her generation was remarkable not only because her popularity was achieved in the face of a dominant musical trend — rock & roll — which she did not follow, but also because she used her vocal skills as a mere stepping stone to other careers, as a stage and film actress and as a film director. Born in 1942 and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she struggled briefly as an actress and nightclub singer in New York during...
