The Sound Rocks, Boys!

Coming into this album on the back of 'Get Down' is one of those moments of joy when you find even better songs yet to come, such as Drop That Thing. A whole host of guest artists and their distinctive influences make them contemporary to, yet satisfyingly different from Basement Jaxx. Ace. But ... why is this version £2 cheaper, has an extra track and appears to have been released a while ago? I don't understand marketing.

Music for today

This is quite simply one of the best albums I have bought in a long time. The variety of styles, the brilliant use of sampling and the featured artists all add to its appeal. Personal highlights are the tracks featuring Candi Stanton, lightsonic and the title track. Music for today without the arrogance, violence and profanity.

Sonically Diverse

Rarely do you come across an album like this, varied yet homogenous. Each track is different yet the album flows along throughout. Take the big club hit, Lightsonic, which uses complex textures a pounding bass line and the relatively old-style sounding snare drum line in the choruses compared to the chilled out down tempo of From the Rooftops, with string harmonies, airy vocal accompaniment and heavy reverb. The genres are immensely varied too, with down tempo, almost lounge music worthy tracks and even a reggae track in with those reflecting the sounds of Ian Brown or Sebastien Tellier, Royksopp and the old drum sounds of the 90s, blending the old with today's synth sounds. This is an album full of gems which in true Groove Armada style gets you tapping your feet or wanting to kick back.
