iTunes Review

Bonnie Raitt's first album in seven years features two sets of sessions: one self-produced with her road band and the other with producer Joe Henry and his choice of studio musicians. Raitt had spent the previous years dealing with the loss of family, and her performances are partly a tribute to them. It's apparent in the soulfulness of the closing ballad—Henry's "God Only Knows"—and symbolized by her renditions of two Bob Dylan songs: "Million Miles" and "Standing in the Doorway". They carry a darkness that Raitt plays off of with her mature stylings. Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down the Line" aches with empathy, and there are a few tasteful shots of Raitt's slide guitar among the mild reggae grooves. Henry and Loudon Wainwright III's "You Can't Fail Me Now" (performed by LWIII in Judd Apatow's Knocked Up) is given a soulful, R&B feel. Raitt's confidence, her natural abilities, and her desire to shift gears from the jukejoint-worthy "Down to You" to the sultry nightclub number "Take My Love with You" prove how her love and respect for her music make her a talent not to be trifled with.

The real deal

A great album, strong songs and very up to date "tight" production - this is not your average Blues album. She sings like she means it, and that slide cuts through like it should. Lets the band stretch out also. The cover art is the one thing letting this package down, what's that about?? Just play the music and you'll be fine.

My favourite artist ever , loving this album! Well worth the wait . " not cause I wanted to " is absolutely stunning , fantastic album .

This one's a keeper

Gutsy, bluesy and soulful, refreshingly "Honest" music that will remain timeless. Love it!

Long a critics' darling, singer/guitarist Bonnie Raitt did not begin to win the comparable commercial success due her until the release of the aptly titled 1989 blockbuster Nick of Time; her tenth album, it rocketed her into the mainstream consciousness nearly two decades after she first committed her unique blend of blues, rock, and R&B to vinyl. Born in Burbank, California, on November 8, 1949, she was the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt, best known for his starring performances in such smashes...
