Editors’ Notes

As one of country music’s best-known performers, Toby Keith plays his songs with a muscular tone that decades ago would’ve at least got him tagged as “country rock.” The electric guitars are serious, and the drums are strong and solid. He sings of his grandmother’s old bar on the Arkansas-Oklahoma border on the title track and pays tribute to the good ol’ U.S.A. with the anthemic “Made in America.” In the tradition of great country music, Keith also contributes a few drinking songs, from the cruising speed of “Beers Ago” to the pokey jump of “Red Solo Cup,” about one of the few items still manufactured in the U.S.A. “Chill-Axin’” takes on an island breeze with its pedal steel guitar. “I Need To Hear a Country Song” plays to the brokenhearted who have always sought comfort from a knowing country tune. Keith has grown up quite a bit over the years. His youthful swagger has been tempered with heart, as “I Won’t Let You Down,” “South of You,” and “Just Another Sundown” are among the album’s most poignant. The deluxe edition features four bonus cuts, including a cover of Three Dog Night’s “Shambala,” and the video for “Made in America.”

Clancy's Tavern

I love this album my two favourite songs has to be red solo cup and beers ago

Great stuff!

Another great album from Toby Keith, he seems to just keep churning them out. Personally I prefer his last couple of albums over this (check out the Bullets In The Gun album) but this is a strong offering. The album has a more laidback, stripped down feel to it and recalls his earlier work. Agree with the other reviewer here Beers Ago and Red Solo Cup are fun anthems. Great value as well with 4 live tracks on the end, Shambala is brilliant!

Born: 08 July 1961 in Clinton, OK

Genre: Country

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Toby Keith spent the '90s as a solid, workmanlike country star who met with considerable chart success, yet never quite broke free of the neo-traditionalist pack to become a household name like Garth Brooks or Alan Jackson. That all changed in 2002 when he recorded "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)," a response to September 11 that became one of country's most highly charged political statements since Merle Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee." The media furor ensured that even...
