Davis' Messiah

A really refreshing listen - clean, direct and unfussy this is a Messiah expressed with great simplicity by Davis. The soloists and particularly Tenebrae, the choir, come across with real clarity - you can almost pick out where each chorister sits in the choruses. It isn't a period performance, but its certainly not big band Handel - taught muscular playing shows just how the virtuosity of a symphony orchestra can bring a different slant to a great classic. I enjoyed the video as well - Davis explains how he approached the performance and gives some wonderfully direct views on period performance.

Definitely one of the best Messiahs I've heard. The choir are heavenly and the soloists are among today's very best.

I feel as if I have been robbed. This is a brilliant recording absolutely spoiled by very low humming which comes in and out of the whole recording.
I managed to stand listening to about half the recording and then I had to stop. How can anyone sell and market this recording ?- I am so so disappointed and I hope this review will put people off.

Known as one of England's most gifted and versatile ensembles, it is the resident orchestra at London's famous Barbican Centre. This and the...
