The same, but different

MGMT (the album) seems to walk a tight line between that of Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations. Back are addictive, poppy songs but back too is the psychedelia and experimentalism found in their second album

If that sounds like a criticism, it isn't. MGMT have been a consistently wonderful band from the get-go, and this album helps cement their standing as one of the best 'Alternative' groups ever (at least in my opinion). They have a sound which is undeniably their own, but they do venture into new territories with each new album to keep things different, but the same. Another grower, another alternative classic, then. 8/10

Listen to Introspection on half decent headphones and then tell me you don't want this album. It's just as catchy as oracular spectacular, even if it takes a few more listens to 'get'.

Initially disappointed but it blew my mind!

When I first heard Alien Days as a single I was slightly disappointed but it grew on me and now I consider it in my top 5 MGMT songs. Cool song no. 2 is incredible as well and mystery disease is a great as well. Introspection is probably best song on the album and your life is a lie is a decent song. I would say the first half is much stronger than the second half of the album but a good sadness and plenty of girls in the sea are good songs. 8.75/10.

MGMT first formed in 2002, during Ben Goldwasser and Andrew Van Wyngarden's freshman year as art students at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. The band was initially known as the Management, and its shows consisted...
