Album Review

Israeli pop singer Noa (aka Achinoam Nini) is a beautiful woman who creates beautiful music. She wrote or co-wrote all 11 tracks on this impressive set, including her lyrical interpretation of "Ave Maria" (it's impressive to claim Bach as a co-writer). Of course, it doesn't hurt to have members of the Pat Metheny Group accompanying you. Most of the songs are sung in English, but several are performed in her native tongue. Wonderfully produced by Metheny and Steve Rodby, Noa is a striking, but unfortunately hard to find, album.

Beautiful Middle Eastern Soul

A beautifully produced album, complex themes of love, displacement and mixed heritage lightly delivered and emotionally rendered with the luminescent production values of Pat Metheny, his distinctive synths floating across the crystal clear vocals of this Israeli born and residing but New York raised woman, with Yemenite Jewish heritage! A kaleidocsope of her influences, including most notably Mishaela, sung in Hebrew, and delivering a strong Middle Eastern percussion section, played by Noa herself...Wildflower is another highlight as is Eye Opener and I Don't Know, soulful mixtures of her middle eastern roots and her U.S upbringing...Incredibly evocative, and for those that want to understand her songs, on this particular album, sung largely in English... Beautiful Middle Eastern/ Western soul!
