A uniquely powerful experience
It is perhaps with some sadness that we listen to these proud and upright men and women of the Red Army, it brings great sadness to me that their empire embraced capitalism, and crumbled as a society. It may be only my opinion, but these passionately performed songs hark back to an era when mother Russia was something to be proud of, a beacon of revolutioary socialism, the planned society, that was thrown away so that they could eat MacDonalds and drink Coke. Fab Album, track down the Russian National anthem out there if you can find it for a real rouser. You will find the track that Michael Palin sung with them 'O, Field, My Field, Polyushko-Pole'. Awesome
There is a chilling beauty about this collection of songs. I came across this gem while searching for military marches, and after I listened to a few songs, I was deeply moved by them. I do not speak Russian, nor can I read or write it, but that doesnt matter. One still gets the meaning in each song, the passion, the power behind them all. It is sad to think of how mighty the Red Army once were, and of the proud men who sang these songs
