Mozart: The Last Three Symphonies

Mozart: The Last Three Symphonies

Playing on period instruments, the Orchestra of the 18th Century delivers an award-winning performance of Mozart’s final symphonic works, bursting with drama and colour. The collection was recorded months before the 2014 death of conductor Frans Brüggen, who guides us through a historically informed interpretation that glows with intensity and joie de vivre in equal measure. Composed over the space of a few weeks in the summer of 1788, Symphonies Nos 39, 40 and 41 round out Mozart’s legacy as one of the all-time greats. The Symphony No. 40 in G Minor is probably Mozart’s most famous, but there’s plenty more to discover. The final symphony, nicknamed “Jupiter”, for instance, is given the royal treatment by all involved in this live recording—just one of the reasons why this album became an award winner in 2014.
