Editors’ Notes

Appetite for Destruction arrived near the height of the Sunset Strip hair-metal craze. But while Mike Clink's production gave Guns 'N Roses' debut an undeniably commercial sheen, this was a band willing to cop to more vices than just smokin' in the boys' room. Taking their lessons from the Stones and Aerosmith, they produced a howling tumult in praise of their vices ("Mr. Brownstone", "Nightrain") and ready to push the world back a step or two ("Welcome to the Jungle"). The breadth of his band's gift was heard in "Sweet Child o' Mine", an arching rainbow of a love song (to a woman, Erin Everly, Rose would prove unable to keep). For a few years the most popular rock band in the world, GNR's mega-stardom rested mostly on this album.

Customer Reviews

....a review NOT written by a 10 year old. In terms of pure energy few bands have come close to reaching the heights achieved here. The band themselves never, ever equalled this set of songs. The intertwining guitar lines of Slash and Izzy Stradlin are absolutely phenomenal but don't let the clueless rabble out there fool you - it's Stradlin's guitar work that is the real star. As a whole the album is a coherent piece of work that revels in the seedy world of drink, drunks and debauchery and it sounds just as good now as it did almost 2 decades ago. Need convincing? Try the tracks: 'Mr Brownstone', 'Rocket Queen' and 'It's So Easy'. And don't worry, if you really have had 'Sweet Child O' Mine' overload it's nowhere near the best track on here.

One of the Greatest Albums Ever

And I am not kidding. I love every single track on this album, don't bother with their greatest hits, all of Guns N' Roses genius is contained on this disc. Pure hard rocking metal bliss.

This has to be the best rock album ever! Slash and Axl are both the best rockers in this universe!!!!! CHAVS BEWARE, CAUSE THIS AINT FOR YOU!

Formed: 1985 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

At a time when pop was dominated by dance music and pop-metal, Guns N' Roses brought raw, ugly rock & roll crashing back into the charts. They were not nice boys; nice boys don't play rock & roll. They were ugly, misogynistic, and violent; they were also funny, vulnerable, and occasionally sensitive, as their breakthrough hit, "Sweet Child O' Mine," showed. While Slash and Izzy Stradlin ferociously spit out dueling guitar riffs worthy of Aerosmith or the Stones, Axl Rose screeched out his tales of...
