Album Review

Straightforward but stunning, The Platinum Collection is an almost indispensable one-stop guide to Catatonia's glorious career, from the early days of "For Tinkerbell," "Dimbran," and "Sweet Catatonia" through to the final gasps of Paper Scissors Stone and peaking, of course, with that run of almost breathless hits that rendered the mid-'90s so memorable. Less cluttered than the Greatest Hits collection released in 2002, The Platinum Collection was certainly compiled with the average consumer in mind — there's nothing here to lure in the collector, no hidden treats or labor-saving B-sides. But "Mulder and Scully," "Strange Glue," and "Road Rage" are still worth the price of admission on their own, and only the inexplicable absence of "Dead from the Waist Up" prevents this from proving the last word in catatonic compilations.

Excellent collection, not a bad song (but then, catatonia never made a bad one)

The album is for people who never realy got round to or have just dicovered Catatonia, it was my first Catatonia album in fact :) some of the songs need to get a good listen to before you can enjoy them because Catatonia were so varied in terms on genres, that in this album, you've got to like some before you broaden your horizons.

Love it!

For people who, like me, have always liked Catatonia but haven't ever got around to buying any of their stuff this album is the perfect download. It would lose a star for the bizarre absence of 'Dead From The Waist Down,' possibly my favourite of their songs, if I didn't love the rest of it so much. With Cerys' heavenly voice and loads of catchy choruses, this is filled with all the hits 'Road Rage' 'Mulder and Scully' and 'Sweet Catatonia' to name but a few. However, more than that there are probably songs you haven't necessarily heard before, which turn out to be just as beautiful and fabulous. Seriously, one of the best albums I've downloaded in ages, I could listen to her voice all day long.

i liked it

I think I’m guilty of skipping the 1st 3 tracks but from there on in its great! And at £4.99! bargain! Reminds me of being a teenager again! Catatonia where awesome and this album shows what they where all about, I like the track towards the end from paper scissors stone

The most traditional pop band of all the Welsh bands to emerge in the post-Brit-pop days of the mid-'90s, Catatonia reworked the sound of jangling late-'80s alternative rock with a punchy, amateurish indie rock attack. Comprised of vocalist Cerys Matthews, guitarist/vocalist Mark Roberts, guitarist Owen, bassist Paul Jones, and drummer Aled Richards, Catatonia formed in...
