Editors’ Notes

Rod Stewart. Paul McCartney. Michael Bublé. Now welcome Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey to the world of standards. His smooth vocals always worked best in the context of his band, where harmonies cemented the tunes and made each member an integral piece of the puzzle. On his own he's solid and laid-back, bringing the right amount of pathos to the piano, woodwinds, and strings of "The Shadow of Your Smile" and "For Sentimental Reasons" managing to sneak in The Beach Boys' "Caroline, No" and Randy Newman's "Same Girl" as rock-era standards. Sonny Til & The Orioles' "It's Too Soon to Know" has been called, in some circles, the first rock 'n' roll song; here it receives a mild reading worthy of a martini. The expanded version includes three additional cuts: "Worried Mind," "The Good Life," and "I Wanna Be Around." They continue the lounge act best evinced by Frey's take on Burt Bacharach's "The Look of Love."

Just Amazing !!

I really don't think I've ever heard a collection of beautifully composed songs like these , there really isn't a bad track on it , Frey is a legend and although I wasn't a huge fan of some of The Eagles stuff this is really head and shoulders above it . Just relax and listen to every track as they tell their own story , It's like a big mug of hot chocolate or a big comfy bed !! Just Lush and THE best album I've heard in years

Dull middle of the road rubbish

A long time fan of Mr Frey and the Eagles, I bought this CD as soon as I saw it had been released. What a BIG disappointment. Unlike other successful artists doing this kind of material such as Linda Ronstadt or Rod Stewart, this just doesn't work.

I was really looking forward to a new album from Glen but to my ears this just doesn't cut the mustard.Nothing wrong with the songs but they've been done so much better by others over the years.I do hope he comes up with some new original material soon.

Glenn Frey is best known as one of the two most popular and longest tenured members (along with Don Henley) of the Eagles, and as an intermittently successful solo artist in the decades since that band ceased being a full-time working group. Although associated closely with the Eagles' brand of Southern California-spawned laid-back country-rock, Frey's origins were a long way away from either the place or the music that his work came to epitomize. He was born in Detroit in 1948, and grew up in Royal...
