Rodgers and Hammerstein’s final soundtrack proves to be their biggest phenomenon. Britain was experiencing a pop explosion in 1965, but one set of showtunes could still register over 200 unbroken weeks on the chart. Of course, these songs’ secret is to pull off tricks pop writers from every era have wrestled with: unshakeable earworms (“Do-Re-Mi”), the title track’s transformative melodies and arrangements and—via the undercurrent of fear running through the saccharine shopping list of “My Favorite Things”—potently mixed emotions.
It's one of the best films and the music is the best part sing along fantastic
As good now
I was raised on this. 30 plus years later my own children love it. It's lost none of its magic in this day of synths and cgi. THIS is where real music is and the fact it's based on a true story makes it all the more compelling and inspirational.
This is an amazing CD, but why are there two of several songs- eg the Prelude, I Have Confidence, My Favourite Things, Something Good, Edelweiss (reprise)and the Finale?? Does this happen to other people too? Would have been 5 stars but for this problem!!!
