12 Songs, 43 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

A polished country pop bombardment awaits on this breakthrough from British duo The Shires. Building on their debut Brave, Chrissie Rhodes and Ben Earle’s second record goes all in on firecracker choruses and yearningly tender duets. “Naked” is a fittingly unvarnished ballad and in the face of “Not Even Drunk Right Now”—an 80 proof whirl of half-yodelled harmonies and intoxicating Nashville melodies—resistance is utterly futile.

New found love

I've never been into folk music before I head The Shires Beat to your rhythm. It puts a smile on my face even when I'm feeling low, not to sound too sappy but it's sometimes like a comforting blanket. Wonderful track and I'm liking a lot more on this album

Bland bland bland

So bland and completely overexposed they pretend to be country to capitalise on the recent growth of the genre in the UK
