Editors’ Notes

Paolo Nutini landed a contract with Atlantic Records at the age of 18 based on the power of his voice — a rich, expressive instrument that endearingly blends his Scottish brogue with some grit and gravel to produce a soulful timbre that belies his tender age. These Streets is an impressive debut, and the overall quality of the songwriting shows an unusual maturity. The majority of the songs are slow acoustic ballads (some with strings) and it’s to Nutini’s credit that he pulls them off convincingly. In particular, “Last Request” and the title tune are excellent vehicles for his outstanding vocals, but he shines most brightly on the upbeat numbers, especially “Jenny Don’t Be Hasty,” about a woman who loves everything about him except his young age, and the catchy “New Shoes” with its absolutely infectious chorus. More of these kinds of energetic tunes would be most welcome, but that’s a quibble — this is a strong first effort by a young artist with a promising future.

debut album

this is an excellent debut album. Paulo's voice is older than his years. beautiful and unique. the guitar is hypnotic acompanied with outstanding music. the songs range from upbeat 'jenny dont be hasty' to romantic 'lovin you' to thought prvoking 'white lies'. his talented vocals shine through on the beautiful song 'alloway grove'. there is a great tribute to his grandparents with 'autumn leaves' and not to mention the sensational new single 'last request'. this amazing album is the start of many to come from the highly talented and down to earth guy, paolo nutini! x x x x x

paolo's album

The lyrics in these songs are so to the point and explain and describe everything hes feeling and thinking brilliantly. I think everyone could relate to at least one song on this album, hes broken the barrier everyone and anyone can listen to his music. Hes a really talented young man...i believe it has something to do with him being Scottish! He really is a very lucky guy to be doing what hes doing and deserves it because he is doing it so well. This guy supported The Rolling Stones something all artists aspire to do!! Buy the album!

I can't get enough of Paolo Nutini! This album is everything an album should be. It's perfect for every occasion and season. I LOVE it! Every track is better than the previous one. That may sound clichéd and gushy, but it really is that good. Buy it or be a fool! = ]

In much the same way that José González hails from Sweden and not Spain, Paolo Nutini is not a smooth Italian pop star, but rather a soul-influenced adult alternative songwriter from Paisley, Scotland. Raised in a music-loving family, he grew up listening to a range of folk, opera, jazz, and his father's R&B favorites. Shortly after discovering homegrown folkies like John Martyn, the teenaged Nutini left school to focus on his own musical development, eventually moving from Paisley to London at age...
