Northern Downpour is one of those songs that hits you like a punch in the ribcage. Nostalgic, melodic, hypnotic, it's just beautiful. The lyrics are, like all PATD songs, a bit odd (look back at both feet and that winding knee?) but wonderful. The opening lines, 'if all our lives are but a dream, fantastic posing greed, then we should feed our diamonds to the sea' took my breath away the first time I heard them, and every time since then. The Piano Knows isn't as good as ND, but it's still a good song, albeit quite peculiar - probably meaningful, if I could only work out what it meant! All in all, this record isn't anything like A Fever You Can't Sweat Out - slower, more thoughtful, and with a touch of sadness - but it's wonderful. A must.
