Editors’ Notes

Supergroups usually suffer from the ‘too many cooks’ theorem and collapse under the strain of oversized egos. However, the accidental formation of this superstar line-up in the late ‘80s made things casual enough that no one jockeyed for better position and a sense of fun prevails throughout. George Harrison had been looking to record a b-side when his famous friends Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty showed up and ended up recording an entire debut album. That first album, Volume One, contains an infectious energy of solid camaraderie as the band performs folk-rock, Beatlesque pop and rockabilly with easy authority (“Handle With Care,” “End of the Line”) and a tad too much late ‘80s production (courtesy of Lynne). Dylan’s “Tweeter and the Monkey Man” and Orbison’s “Not Alone Any More” remain the riveting standouts. (Orbison sadly passed before the follow-up Volume Three was recorded and he's missed.) The albums went out-of-print. Upon reissue in 2007, two bonus tracks were added to each album, and five music videos and a band documentary complete the package giving the group the definitive treatment.

The Traveling Wilbury's

Could it get any better than this? Not in this lifetime. Fabulous - Fabulous - Fabulous. A must for any true believers.

If you haven't got it ..... get it!

In an age of unadulterated, made-for TV, pop-idol, Britain's Got Talent garbage, this shines like a beacon of how MUSIC should be done. Laid back, talented, straightforward rock and roll pop. If you don't like this, you don't like music. Get real and listen to how it should be done.

Reversing the usual process by which groups break up and give way to solo careers, the Traveling Wilburys are a group made up of solo stars. The group was organized by former Beatle George Harrison, former Electric Light Orchestra leader Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison, thus representing three generations of rock stars. In 1988, the five (who had known each other for years) came together to record a Harrison B-side single and ended up writing and recording an album on which they...
