EDITORS’ NOTES

With his long-time collaborator and film-scoring partner Atticus Ross officially a member of Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor explores even more skin-crawling, drama-escalating atmospherics. Not the Actual Events is a five-song EP that plunges deep into the murky abyss—lyrics of despair, confusion, and discontent grind against a wall of buzzsaw guitars, electronic effects, and apocalyptic textures. Palpable intensity spills out of “Dear World,” the lamenting “She’s Gone Away,” and the dystopian “Burning Bright (Field on Fire).” “The Idea of You” recalls With Teeth with its live drums and pummeling guitar balled into a tight fist that wildly expands and contracts in classic NIN style.

Well...

Imagine Broken, Year Zero and With Teeth condensed into one EP, then completely revised and reformed.
This is a different, monstrous sound, and quite a turn in the direction of TR's sound (although you can definitely tell he's stuck to his roots.)
The addition of Atticus Ross to NIN doesn't go unnoticed either, you can pick out moments in this album where a lot of depth and timbre and atmosphere has been used, that on top of TR's makes for a chilling work of music.
Get the album before iTunes realises how good this is and jacks up the price.

Great business as usual

WINTERKILLS

Not the huge departure some had said it would be but still a slightly trippier edge to things. Reznor's sonics are always superb. Get it. Can't wait for the album !

Beautifully dark

NiN are never predictable, and this glorious offering is no exception. Huge, but subtle, full of dark, twisted noises and an yet still very warm.

About Nine Inch Nails

With shadowy beauty and searing intensity, Nine Inch Nails—the long-running project of multi-instrumentalist/producer/songwriter Trent Reznor—expanded the scope of mainstream music. Scrutinizing humanity, relationships, and society, Reznor shapes deeply internalized thoughts into accessible, exciting sound. 1989’s Pretty Hate Machine brought this introspective curiosity and synth-heavy industrial rock to a broad audience, while landmark releases The Downward Spiral and The Fragile stunned with coarse guitars and striking ferocity. Nine Inch Nails is continuously evolving—experimenting with new formats and ideas, including the turbulent 2007 concept album Year Zero, about a dystopian futuristic USA, and the textured minimalism of 2013’s Hesitation Marks. Unbounded by convention, Reznor has upended relationships with labels in order to safeguard his artistic freedom and forged creative alliances with outsider champions like David Bowie, Saul Williams, and David Lynch, while longtime collaborator Atticus Ross became the only other official member of Nine Inch Nails in 2016.
