Customer Reviews

By Evan Sutherland

So a couple of new tracks and some re-hashed old ones....Nothing could be further from the truth! I loved the originals but I would have been dissapointed if the arrangments were the same.
The new tracks are good and the single is superb while the old classics spark nostalga and are different enough to be at least interesting and after a few listens,I guess, maybe even genius.
You have to get this, its Spandau Ballet grown up and for under £8 ... no brainer!

Growing up like the rest of us

I was sceptical when I heard of the group reforming and the release of this album. They were my favourite band when I was a lad.

I have listened to this many times now and think that the sound has grown up (unfortunately just like I have!) I know that at first I kept wanting to jump in with the faster paced original tempo but after listening it's really good. An excellent idea to re-record each song and an excellent take on the covers industry! Afterall if Michael Bublé et al can record covers in a way that is different to original songs why can't the original band produce covers of their original work?

I'd say get the album, trust me, I've listened to it all (whereas some of the reviewers on here haven't!)

Slowing down in their old age?!

Having seen the band on the opening night of their new tour at O2 Dublin and being totally blown away by the old songs the old fashioned way, I was looking forward to hearing the new takes on these classics. I have to say that although they are very listenable, the album is way too slow paced to listen to from start to finish. I was begging for a change of tempo, but even some previously faster tracks like 'Only When You Leave' and 'Lifeline' have been toned down. Don't get me wrong, its a welcome album as up until the band's appearance on GMTV 3 weeks ago we didnt' think we'd get any "new" recordings at all...just would have liked a more balanced album is all.

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

As one of the leading New Romantic bands, Spandau Ballet racked up a number of British hits — as well as one Top Ten American hit, "True" — during the early '80s, becoming one of the most successful groups to emerge during the new wave. The only other new romantic band to enjoy greater commercial success was Duran Duran, yet Spandau Ballet was there first, scoring three Top Ten hit singles during 1981 with their synthesized dance-pop. By 1983, the London-based quintet had shed its Roxy...
