Album Review

When Third Eye Blind released Out of the Vein in 2003, they felt like post-grunge relics that refused to acknowledge their time had passed. Six years later, with Ursa Major in tow, they've surfaced just when late-'90s alt rock nostalgia is beginning to bubble. Tellingly, TEB shuck much of the heavy, oppressive sobriety of Out of the Vein replacing it with a touch of the fizzy, singsong hooks that made their debut a smash success. Without guitarist Kevin Cadogan, these hooks aren't as finely honed, but they're still present, still digging in right underneath the surface. Singer/songwriter Stephan Jenkins doesn't just rely on hooks, he retains no small element of the hard-edged social consciousness of Out of the Vein, signaling when it's time for things to get serious by toning down the hooks, turning down the volume, and letting the seriousness of the situation speak for itself.

About time

I must admit I was not getting bored of the previous albums but was very excited when I heard that these guys were due to release this. I could not wait for UK itunes to catch up so bought it from the US version last year. It is an amazing album with true 3eb catchy riffs, lyrics and melodies.

If you like 3eb's previous albums you will love this, if you have never heard of 3eb, this will be a great 1st taste and inspire you to listen to the back catalogue which even today sounds fresh.

It grows and grows.

It took a long time in coming.

At first I was sceptical, what with the changes in personel.

It grows and grows. And then seeing the band live made it even bigger.

This is without doubt one of best album bands in the last 15 years, consistently bringing wonderful magical songs to us.

If u first heard semi charmed life and are looking in again then jump in feet first.

Btw somewhere in the ether that is the net is a song by the band called "persophone" that will never be released. Find it. Truly wonderful.

Find me something that makes me smile as much as this.....

Another awesome album from 3eb. Got this after hearing a few tracks played live at the o2 empire and the rest of the album is great too.

However... iTunes do not include the bonus disc on their download. Non-dairy creamer is IMO the best song so perhaps shop elsewhere.

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Although often lumped into the post-grunge category, Third Eye Blind sported a brighter sound than many of their late-'90s peers, taking as much influence from classic pop/rock traditions as the angst-ridden music that dominated the decade. The group scored its first hit in 1997, when their debut single "Semi-Charmed Life" cracked the Top 10. Third Eye Blind built upon that success throughout the following three years, releasing a number of singles (three of which cracked the Top 10) while touring...
