iTunes Review

Paul McCartney’s second solo album to feature him playing all the instruments came ten years after the first McCartney solo record. Times had changed but McCartney, curious as ever, plays with the latest technology in his home studio. “Coming Up” is an enthralling piece of modernist pop, as catchy as any pop song he has written. “Temporary Secretary” is a mind-melt of synthetic textures, a delightful piece of Kraftwerk-like ephemera. “Waterfalls” is the chilling ballad that while not as well known as many McCartney songs still stands the test of time. “Nobody Knows” is a catchy barroom rocker. “Summer’s Day Song” is an interesting piece of synthesizer work. The Deluxe Edition includes the “Live at Glasgow, 1979” version of “Coming Up”, the impressively orchestrated “Blue Sway” (and a version without orchestration), the B-sides “Check My Machine” and “Secret Friend” in different edits and the maniacal workout, “Mr. H Atom / You Know I’ll Get You Baby” where McCartney turns into Gary Numan.

Waterfalls is an amazing song!

No No No

He wrote and performed some wonderful music with the Beatles but this is dreadful. Typical pop. No feeling. No musical intent at all total garbage. Dont get me wrong I love Paul McCartney but this album? Its a joke and I think the man would admit that himself!

McCartney's hot streak began in 1970, when he became the first Beatle to leave the group. A little more than a year after the...
