Album Review

Mention the name Debbie Gibson and you're likely to elicit either a derisive snort or embarrassment from your conversant about ever having owned a Gibson album. Chances are that anyone who falls into the latter category — and there are several million of them — bought her debut, Out of the Blue. While Out of the Blue does possess the slick, processed dance-pop production and squeaky-clean innocence of most '80s teen pop, it stands out from the competition due to Gibson's talent as a singer, musician, pop songwriter, arranger, and even producer. Five of this album's ten tracks hit the Top 40, with four of those going Top Five, and Gibson's youthful exuberance and energy shine through infectiously. Despite her reputation, it's some of the best teen pop you're likely to hear.

Excellent Debut

A huge American Star of the late 80's though she was overlooked in the UK in preference to Tiffany this is an excellent debut LP from Debbie. All the tracks were written by Debbie (mostly when she was still in high school) and she even co-produced some of them. Foolish Beat she produced herself and as a result over 20 years later she still holds the record for being the youngest artist ever to write, produce and perform an American number 1 single. If these are the calibre of songs a teenager could write what could she do in later years?? Check out her other CD's both inder Debbie & Deborah to find out. I hope that iTunes eventually uploads the videos to Out Of The Blue & Shake Your Love soon!

Utterly Brilliant Pop

Perfect 80's pop. Miss Gibson has unknowingly written a stage musical as her debut album. Give it a careful listen and you can see the makings of a Grease-style musical here, with great, catchy pop songs. Would be worth seeing!

Out of the Eighties

Who can remember Bros.? Well they supported Debbie on her US tour as she supported Bros. on their European leg. She was bigger than Bros in the US, and also stormed our charts as well with the smash hit "Shake Your Love" grabbing everyone's attention, then dominating the charts with follow ups "Only In My Dreams", "Out Of The Blue", "Foolish Beat" and "Shake Your Love". Harmless Music for the teenagers of late 80's

Debbie Gibson became a pop phenomenon in the late '80s, scoring a string of hit singles when she was only 17. Although she was still a teenager, Gibson showed signs of being a talented pop craftsman, capable of making catchy dance-pop in the style of Madonna, as well as lush, orchestrated ballads. Gibson's time at the top of the charts was brief, but...
