iTunes Review

Loveless simultaneously defines the shoegaze movement and proves how intoxicating the genre can be. Two painstaking years in the making, My Bloody Valentine’s second album is a washed-out masterpiece—shaped by blurry waves of guitar noise, droning synthesizers and the cooly detached, intertwined coo of Bilinda Butcher and Kevin Shields. Individual songs—like “When You Sleep” or “Only Shallow”—are haunting highlights, but the album reveals its true emotional potency when you absorb it from start to finish. Plug in the headphones, press play and let Loveless carry you away.

Disc Switch Glitch

It goes without saying this is a seminal album, and a very long awaited re-issue.

In this iTunes release there is no mention of which of the tracks are the digital remaster and which are Kevin Shields' new master from the original analogue tapes.

For the physical CD release, there's general consensus among fans now that Sony have messed up the manufacturing and mis-labelled the discs.

So it would appear that for both the CDs and this iTunes release 'Disc 1' is actually the new analogue master. And, in my opinion, the definitive version, despite an audible glitch at 02:46 in 'What You Want".

A truly great album

A great album with fantastic sound. Nothing is as cool as this even if it did drive them mad and they disappeared. This was the way to go out!

I just can't understand how YOU don't understand how clever and innovative this band and its music is. THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME.
if you don't like it, then Justin Bieber is just round the door.

My bloody Valentine, your album is beautiful, loud, booming and a great entertainment. Your new album is just the same.

Like the Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, and the Jesus and Mary Chain before them, My Bloody Valentine redefined what noise meant within the context of pop songwriting. Led by guitarist Kevin Shields, the group released several EPs in the mid-'80s before recording the era-defining Isn't Anything in 1988, a record that merged lilting, ethereal melodies of the Cocteau Twins with crushingly loud, shimmering distortion. Though My Bloody Valentine rejected rock & roll conventions, they didn't subscribe...
