iTunes Review

TLC’s 1992 debut opens with an unidentified male grousing that the girl group’s baggy clothes aren’t ladylike. The trio retorts with “Hat 2 da Back", an urban-soul single that positions their style not as a denial of femininity, but an assertion. Such liberation characterises this groundbreaking album, a new jack swing classic of R&B vocals and breakbeat samples that redefines womanhood with tracks like “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg", a hip-hop shout-along that advances female sexual agency; “His Story", a listen-to-the-victim op-ed; and “What About Your Friends", a formative work of swaying-pop sisterhood.

Best of the old-skool!

Can't believe I'm the first person to review this album, cos it's by far one of the best albums I've ever heard! All the tracks are fantastic - full of energy and proper catchy. Loved this album from the first listen - wish they'd stuck with this style instead of going into more mellow R&B. Can't rate this high enough - songs like ain't too proud to beg, shock dat monkey and hat 2 da back, to name a few, are nothin short of awesome! RIP Left-Eye :) <3

How I wish it was still the 90's and I was still young enough to get "crunk"!!

This album is still outrageously good! The biggest girl band of the 1990's - paved the way for destiny's child only they had a hellva lot more attitude. Love it, digging out all my old TLC's now!!

TLC were one of the biggest-selling female R&B groups of all time, riding a blend of pop, hip-hop, and urban soul to superstardom during the '90s. Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, rapper Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas managed to appeal equally to pop and R&B audiences, blending catchy hooks and bouncy funk with a playful, confident attitude. Initially, their image was equal parts style and spirit, bolstered by a flamboyant, outrageous wardrobe. As time passed, they became equally well...
