Album Review

Winning American Idol on the strength his grin and cornball down-home appeal, Scotty McCreery delivers his debut Clear as Day just five months after taking home the big prize, the quickest turnaround in Idol history. Forget whatever this portends about the health of the television show or the power of Scotty’s personality: it does suggest that McCreery is the easiest of all Idols to fit within the pre-existing machinery of the music industry. Possessing no distinct persona outside of the good guy next door, McCreery can sing any generic Nashville number, and so he does on Clear as Day, singing songs about sweet tea, pecan pies, country, football, the King James bible, mom, water towers, and, of course, love. Songs this basic need flair, either in the writing or the performance departments, to distinguish themselves, and there are moments with flashes of life, both coming courtesy of writer Rhett Akins whose “You Make That Look Good” and “Write My Number un Your Hand” have some pep and sturdy country roots.

I love this album can not wait for more to come :)

Great album

I'm so glad this is finally available on iTunes here in the UK. Loving this album :-)

It might convert me to country!

I have never really been a fan of country. Never owned a country album or thought of buying one. But I heard a couple of his songs and thought "why not".
I bought the album, wow. Wonderful songs, well written and each with a little story. Most impressive are the songs stories, simple but eloquently told. And roughing enough to raise the hairs on the back of your neck and bring a little tear to your eye.

I strongly recommend you click through the songs and have a little listen, or better yet just buy the album. You won't be disappointed.

The winner of American Idol’'s tenth season, country crooner Scotty McCreery began singing as a child in Garner, North Carolina. School performances eventually gave way to local competitions, and McCreery won a singing contest in the nearby town of Clayton before trying out for American Idol as a 16-year-old. Auditioning with Josh Turner's "Your Man," he made good use of his country twang and deep baritone vocals, prompting the judges to compare him to Randy Travis. McCreery passed the audition,...
