Album Review

Generous as it may be, the Deluxe Edition doesn’t exactly deliver a lot of surprises for the hardcore Weller collector, but that’s only because this well has been tapped many times over, with all the stray tracks appearing as bonus discs in various territories, as part of B-sides collections — everything except an album-specific expansion, which this 2009 double-disc set is. Weller’s 1992 eponymous debut grows by 25 tracks here, with all the B-sides — including “Fly on the Wall,” the lengthy jam “That Spiritual Feeling,” and a prescient cover of Traffic’s “Feelin’ Alright” that pointed the way toward Wild Wood — spread over the two discs, along with a hefty dose of demos, alternate and acoustic versions, and the Lynch Mob beats version of “Kosmos” that helped bolster his ties to Britain’s underground club scene. Again, none of this material is unreleased, but this may be the best way to hear it all, as it’s presented in historical context and it’s sequenced in a smooth, entertaining way that enhances this already excellent album, turning it into a richer experience.

Weller's best solo album (plus some out-takes and demos)

Paul Weller's first solo album was also his best. The record that followed it Wild Wood is also great but just not as fresh and beautiful as this one. This Deluxe version includes a few unheard early solo gems and the usual demo filler. But if you thought Paul Weller started his solo career with Wild Wood you really should buy this one.

An inspirational performance by an iconic artist

This album will give you a truely uplifting experience. After listening to the original ablum so many times i still bought this one because that's what you do as a weller fan.. but wow was i surprised! It is so crisp and clear - you can hear every emotional note that Paul has poured into this record and does it sound good - Yeh for sure! A favourite track? Difficult - seriously they are really good - sample! I like 3,5,6 & 11 but really I would be happy to lisen to any of them. Enjoy - this is a real must for any weller fan.

This should be your first Paul Weller....followed by Wild Wood. Both are brilliant albums..I could go on a lot about each track.
