Awe inspiring

Jessica hoop is just amazing, her voice is just angelic.

Having literally just got back from a small festival in Clitheroe named Cloudspotting, buying Jesca Hoop's The House That Jack Built is on the list of things to do before the working week begins.

Why? Because it's rare to find such a talented female musician who knows how to hold her audience yet still keep a friendly grace in the air. As with all festivals in England the weather can play a huge part in a happy engaged audience, or one thats gone to seek cover. This balance is all to easy to upset when a downfall begins mid set at the smallest (a mere 250 people) festival in the UK when the bar is calling and boasting shelter. Jesca however takes the opportunity to get her audience right up under the stage tent sat on the steps and sheltered at the sides. This oddly enough increases her audience, makes her set more intimate and sets precedence for the artists to follow.

Her music? I love it, the delicate but playful riffs and a unique and slightly excitable voice... but this is itunes have a listen yourself ;)

And if you like it, there might be some other Cloudspotting artists to your taste ;)

A sensual, esoteric singer/songwriter whose odd, sparse songs nod to influences like Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, and Vashti Bunyan, Jesca Hoop got her big break thanks to her gig as a nanny for Tom Waits' offspring in the early 2000s. Hoop had grown up in a musically inclined Mormon family, but left the fold soon after her parents separated. She traveled around California, Wyoming, and Arizona writing songs and honing her craft before settling down with the Waits family for five years as their nanny....
