Hothouse Flowers - PEOPLE

Saturday early evening lying in front of the Pyramid stage after a seriously hot & sunny day at our first Glastonbury Festival 1989.
A friend of ours had said that we should stick around for the next band as they were a catchy up-and-coming band.
7:00pm and the 'Flowers' came onstage and for the first and only time we were drawn to the stage. Fantastic!!
The band performed much of 'People' and some of 'Home' too. Wow!!!
More than music, a communion of souls, ecstatic & euphoric. Magic was cast that evening.
This was a spiritual experience and a climactic one for Glastonbury.
Afterwards, we 18 year olds at the time walked back to our cars to kip whilst the next act were headlining to a dying crowd, our lives would never be the same again.
Thank You Hothouse Flowers - You Were The Headline Act Of 1989

Hothouse Flowers - Home

Thanks to a question this morning on the Ken Bruce Popmaster on Radio 2 about the flowers I decided to revisit their music. Sadly about 6 years ago I threw away all my old tapes due to not having a tape player anymore and this album was among them. But it really is a great album with catchy tunes, a great mix of melodic thought provoking tunes and upbeat stuff too. It's a forgotten album but it should be on everyone's playlist!!

The group was founded as a Dublin street-performance act called the Incomparable Benzini Brothers by schoolmates Liam O'Maonlai (vocals, keyboards) and Fiachna O'Broainain (guitar), the former of whom had played in My Bloody Valentine forerunner Congress. After winning the Street Entertainers of the Year...
