A creative spectacle

Sakamoto goes back to his rawest form by playing some of his most recognised songs simply on a piano. These interpretations show off his songwriting prowess and accentuate the beauty he delivers in all his work. Favourites such as ‘Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence’ and ‘The Last Emperor’ will be familiar to all. The second set of tracks which are from the ‘Art of noise’ CD, are much more experimental and probably do deserve the ‘New Age’ genre. At times picking a melody out of these tunes can be difficult but they all still resonate with creativity and are a great insight into Sakamoto’s alternative musical abilities. You will probably not listen to the second set of tracks as often but that is not to say they don’t offer anything to your ear. If you were fortunate to have seen Mr. Sakamoto on his recent tour this album will undoubtedly bring back memories from a fascinating night of musical creativity.
