Album Review

Pretty ingenious idea: publicize your album by titling it after your website URL. And this is music that deserves to be publicized. On their first major-label release, Pitchshifter maintains its socially — and politically — conscious views while making a huge progression musically. www.pitchshifter.com melds the band's usual punk intensity with the hard and fast (bpm speeds are included with each song for the curious) rhythms of drum'n'bass, but with a distinctly organic feel, perhaps a result of the band sampling live drums. J.S. Clayden and John A. Carter show themselves to be masterful programmers. The addition of grinding metallish guitars courtesy of new member Jim Davies also enhances the live feel. Songs such as "Microwaved" and the excellent single "Genius" are dynamic and exciting, and have a dangerous edge that is missing from much current drum'n'bass, which tends to sacrifice intensity for complexity. Even when Pitchshifter slows down the beats, as on "w.y.s.i.w.y.g." — perhaps the best song on the album — there is an unbridled fury that shoots through www.pitchshifter.com like a train. Pitchshifter is only getting better. (For the second straight album, the band has included free samples at the end of the CD for the use of listeners.)

The album that changed it all

This in many senses can be described as the album that changed pitchshifter from being full on metal to where they are today. Its a good album , not quite up there with deviant (considered a psi masterpiece). Stand out tracks are easily microwaved, genius and please sir and all amazing in vocal content and musical mastery. Pitchshifter will always been known for there mish mash of musical ideas and how they managed to put d&b in punk/rock music - it shouldnt work but this album proves it does.

Genius!

The album that launched pitchshifter to cult legendary status. dotcom will go down as one of the greatest british metal releases of all time

Not the best album , but its good.

The 1st album Pitchshifter released when the music changed. instead of the full on metal that Pitch used to do they have given a more friendly aproach. its still Heavy, loud and still being the music to cause cute and harmless people hide away but its not as heavy as Pitch Shifter once was. here pitch take Metal and rock then add drum n bass to it. But still a good album. Buy it!

British band Pitchshifter started out in the late-'80s industrial underground as aggressive social confronters harking back to the early days of British punk and American hardcore (à la the Minutemen and Dead Kennedys). Pitchshifter signed to Earache in 1992, and their first couple releases — the mini-album Submit (1992) and the full-length Desensitized (1993) — firmly entrenched them in the industrial underground and brought their music to the attention of American listeners.
