Album Review

This Time around, Melanie C has decided to abandon any pretense that she either makes sprightly dance-pop or that she was once known as "Indie Spice," and devotes herself entirely to smooth adult pop. There are traces of Coldplay and muted Robbie Williams, along with a fair sampling of Texas and Dido, and it's all blended together into music that's sleek, atmospheric, and melodic. She does fine as a vocalist also, her thin voice gaining character, and showing how she's learned to milk turns of phrase to give them emotion.

Northern Star still shining brightly

'This Time' is Melanie C's fourth studio record and it does not disappoint. Following the strictly MOR rock affair of 'Beautiful Intentions', the first album Melanie released on her own label Red Girl Records, this album's sound is quite a suprise. Melanie C has always been known as an artist of diversity - she can both electric it up or strip it down beautifully, tied together with a unique vocal talent. Melanie takes the opportunity on This Time to produce what is a diverse range of very fresh British rock and acoustic tracks. Opening 'Understand' provides a logical link from her last album with its rock vain, but alludes to the likes of Coldplay and Keane. Second track 'What If I Stay' highlights what is the first of many beautiful vocal moments on the record, showcasing Melanie's range. 'Protected' is a Guy Chambers co-penned track which seems an obvious choice for a radio-friendly single. The title track 'This Time' has a bizarre Alisha's Attic feel to it, but the guitars that drive the song are strong and enhanced by Chisholm's vocal which now involved into fine strength. 'Carolyna' pays tribute to the RHCP's and has an infectious melody which would lead to this song becoming a hit following up similar hits by Melanie C, such as 'Here It Comes Again'. The album half way through begins to become meshed with very listenable backing music with synthesisers really kicking in half wy through on the final tracks to provide very memorable strong vocal outros or rocking band moments which sallute Melanie's diversity and her much credited live touring. With over 400 live dates to her name, this fourth studio album delivers Melanie C's vocal stronger than ever, on a more mellow, introspective, but smooth line of tracks. The ears are pleased in a way similar to he remarkable debut with 'Northern Star'. And an artist greatly overlooked in her own country looks every so likely to usher in a new wave of success similar to that which she has experienced with her last album across continenta Europe and other territories. If you like Alanis Morrisette, Natalie Imbruglia, Keane, Coldplay, U2, and a female with a voice with attitude and a great live show - this is for you. Also check out Melanie C's Live DVD, 'Live Hits', also out now.

'This Time' it's real.

With not being a great Fan of Melanie C last album I thought we were in for the same type of music again. With Songs such as 'Never Be the Same Again' & 'I Turn To You' such brilliant songs from Melanie C we get a taste of a brand new side of Melanie C. A chill out album that will make the back of your hairs stand up. Every song on here is Single Material and Melanie C still shows what she hasn't lost. Instead of the heavy-rock side we see a much softer side to Mel C. If I had one track that I would want a friend to here it would be 'This Time' which sees Mel C in a breathtaking song with amazing vocals and superb lyrics such as the chorus with 'I never look back, I never cry, never Try to wonder why.' you can't go wrong with her new album. This album is defiantly one for the spring-summer chill out relaxed people. Give it a try and you may be surprised what she has to offer.

Melanie C - "This Time"

Melanie never fails to provide the goods, and This Time, she's done it again! With excellent vocals, catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics, this album is well worth a buy!
