Album Review

Unexpectedly, Texas became a popular sensation prior to the release of White on Blonde when Chris Evans made the soulful single "Say What You Want" the de facto theme song on his morning program on Radio 1. On the strength of his support, Texas was catapulted to previously unthinkable success, and the majority of the fans who thought the number one single was fine shouldn't have been disappointed with the full-length album. A combination of roots-rock and soul, White on Blonde occasionally has more style than substance, but Sharleen Spiteri's gorgeous vocals and the band's professionalism make the record a charming, ingratiating listen.

Soft centre

Beautifully written and recorded. A special word has to go out to Sharleen Spiteri and her super smooth vocals, try out 'Insane' and 'White on blonde'. If you like the Pretenders have a listen to 'Ticket to lie' and the final 'Breathless' is excellent. The most catchy, familiar tracks are 'Say what..' and 'Black eyed boy'. I have to declare a soft spot for Texas, my closest brush with fame is meeting the parent of one of the band memebers, and I could drive past their house and see all the gold discs on the living room wall!

Amazing album :)

What can I say, it's one of my favourite CDs ever, and for good reason. The gorgeous lyrics, sweeping instrumental, and smooth voice of Sharleen will have you melting every time you hear it with pure, utter relaxation. I grew up listening to this stuff, and my fondness is not nostalgia - it is genuine remembrance of brilliant, unique music written by a band who deserved a larger fan base. Pocket it now ;)
