Recorded at the legendary Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, Coup de Gueule is the 2004 album from Ivory Coast reggae vocalist Tiken Jah Fakoly. Produced by Tyrone Downie and featuring Sly & Robbie in the rhythm section, the follow-up to Francafrique features 12 songs based on social and political issues such as globalization and corruption, with contributions from Positive Black Soul's Didier Awadi ("Quitte le Pouvoir"), Zebda's Amokrane brothers ("Où Veux Tu Que J'Aille"), and Magyd Cherfi ("Tonton d'America"). ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi

In the tradition of Bob Marley, Alpha Blondy, and his African griot caste, Tiken Jah Fakoly emerged in the late '90s as Africa's premier social critic through reggae. Born Doumbia Moussa Fakoly (June 23, 1968) into a family of musicians and oral historians known as griots, a role honored throughout Africa, Fakoly took an earnest interest in reggae as a boy growing up in the town of Odienné on the northern slope of the Ivory Coast.
